The Molise
is a land incontaminate, an oasis to discover, to visit and to love because
of the beautiful sights, the nature, the archeological and artistical
sites, the people and the excellent dishes. Geographically the Molise is situated in the center of Italy. It is characterized mostly by the montains: in fact 4448 metre square which more than half are montains, hills and woods that slope down to the cost and the seaside. You will have the feeling of a voyage of discovery because you will find there many monuments from the ‘frentano-sannitico’ period, testimony of a millenarian history. From its frontiers with the Abruzzi and the Apuglia, from the wonderful Mainarde and the Matese to the Adriatic, this region has kept itself as an ethnographical island with testimonies of the old and glorious civilisation of its people. |

All this
contribute to an envious ecological and landscapist patrimony and offer
the possibility to hunt, to fish and to practise winter sports. The glamour of the Molise is due mostly to the archaic aspect of the countryside, to the local handicraft which is not influenced by the design industry, to the environment which has not changed for centuries and to the artistical and archeological patrimony which is still unknown. Most of the little villages are medieval for their access doors, their barriers, their luxury home and their churches. |

In Agnone,
for exemple, artisans produce bells for the most important churches in
the world. In Isernia, the pillow lace is a tradition handed down from
mothers to daughters ( Spanish tradition). In Frosolone and other villages,
knifes and scissors steel are still made by craftmen who guard against
the industrial competition. In Capracotta there are real masters of wood
and copper. In Scapoli, you find bag-pipes made of cherry-wood and goat-skin,
old handicraft dating from the roman time. Another aspect concerns the artistical treasures similar to the original, not contaminate by the industrial progress. The remains of Altilia, last testimony of the ‘sannitica’ civilisation: the classical theatre of Pietroabbondante, the old amphitheatre and the church of the third centuary of Larino ( Basilica di San Pardo), the dome of Termoli from the fourth centuary, many castles, abbeys and sanctuaries situated in small villages up the montains ( S. Maria di Canneto sul Trigno, S. Maria della Strada di Matrice, Faifoli di Montagano and San Giorgio Martire a Petrella Tifernina). Fond of nature, keen on art and handicraft, folklore, very old traditions and good cooking, come and visit the Molise, your stay will be more creative and pleasant. |
